Wow man! I love it. Just one thing. The ridge at the top of the helmet is not smoothly curved (which I'm sure you already noticed, hah).

Other than that, great work. Very Happy

I think the textures on the Chest are still WIP as well?

Thanks.
You usually won't get that close to the player, so it should be sufficiently smooth in-game.
Except for the helmet I only spent a bit more time on the black leather parts (mostly boots and gloves) otherwise it's just basic colors and in the case of the suit, a normal overlay to make it look more clothey.

PostSubject: Re: Rebel Pilot   Rebel Pilot - Page 2 EmptyFri Feb 22, 2013 7:13 pm

Hmm, wont this be 1st and 3rd person? There are quite a lot of people who notice stuff like this and complain.
This is CE3 so we can afford to have really HQ models. For far models, we will have the LOD versions so that's not a problem for memory, since when the player is close enough to see the head, there won't be much else on the screen.
I know a lot of people (including me), who like to admire their player models Very Happy

Even in 1st person the player wouldn't be able to get as close as the picture I posted. He'd collide with the pilot first, and he wouldn't have the same angle. And the FOV and scale of the model would be different in-game, too. So, really, it's fine. Very Happy
The only occasion where it might be really obvious if a sniper stands right next to you and zooms in. But you'll find 'problems' in every game like that.
The whole model (without face which doesn't exist yet and some smaller details [strap under chin, some cylinders at the belt and boot, those yellow/orange goggles built into the helmet]) sits at 8296 tris right now. With face and those details it will go up to 9.3k+ I'd guess. So it's sufficiently HQ.

Mhm, ok, so we'll limit the 3rd person zoom as well. The best test to see how it looks is ingame of course, same as ever.

Looks great, i would change the belt color to grey though, to make it pops more. Awesome job.

Ah did you took it from an actual picture and just removed with photoshop the face? ;D
Anyway it looks amazing.

Although the color for the gloves should be more greyish and like Lephenix said, the belt kinda blends with the rest. Make it black or also grey(silver maybe).

Hmm, yes. Good ideas.
My refs all had black gloves (actually it was only one, the Pilot from SWBF). And I think Wedge had a redish belt like the 2 fattys on the left.
I'll make it silver/grey. And the gloves will get a makeover, too. Too much black leather on the guy, and especially the gloves and the boots... Very Happy

Actually i was a bit wrong, the above pic shows only the pilot clothes for Hoth. This is how the pilot look in Episode 4 when they go in space. The gloves are actually black.Hope you didn't start working on it:

Hmm, the Hoth pilot clothes seems to be bulkier and have insulation of some sort, makes sense, cause of the cold. (X-Wings have life support, snowspeeders dont)

Rebel Pilot - Page 2 Pilet
I went with the general space pilot look, too much Hoth-specific stuff is not good.
Dirtened him up a lot, most of it is quite small so it's not that visible on the screenshot (which somehow got blurry). Is it too much?

That looks pretty good to me, are you going to make the tube coming from his chest and the insulation tubes on the arms?

Don't think the small tubes would fit too well to the current arm folds, and I don't want to redo the arm because I'm lazy.
I always forget the large tube but it's planned.

I think (although it sucks) draw a line to on this and split the project with one for hoth and one for regular pilot

I draw a line and say a Hoth-pilot is not worth the time. Hoth is already taking up too much special work time.

In the end I'll most likely add the mini-tubes. I was focused on the update this weekend tho. The face got priority.

PostSubject: Re: Rebel Pilot   Rebel Pilot - Page 2 EmptySat Mar 02, 2013 10:45 am

Me gusta once again. The little dirt is adding up nice, since the pilots don't get so dirty in the cockpit(ehem). When you continue on the chest and the metal part be sure to check the refs i gave you. It's not so big deal but it seem that the top and the bottom edge on the metal thingy (the edges that are close to the body) need to be more distant from each other. Hope this won't stretch the main texture that is visible more if done right but if it doesn't look good it works for me the way it is now ;]

About the other question... it sure will look nice to have different clothes for Hoth but i agree with Ben here. Making another character model just for One map is too much when on every other map the pilot clothes are the same. If the clothes are so different that anyone can see a huge difference then it will be necessary or if you got some extra time and doesn't have any work you can do another model Very Happy
