Good idea. Wink
Where's the wireframe though? Very Happy
As I already said, very nice model. The added detail gives it a nice touch.

You are doing great work tho the wire is needed only for the low poly to determine if there are too many polys somewhere Wink

About showcasing work... . No need for everything to be bunched in one thread because it will get messy. The 3d modelling subforum is exactly for everyone to show their models and receive the opinion of the others. That's why everyone should upload what they are working on at the moment in a different thread here providing pictures and info. If the guy who makes the model decide to texture his model there is no need for a new thread in textures and he can continue in the same thread. But if he needs help by someone else to texture the model the guy who takes the job should upload his work in Textures.

This way i think things will be more tidy and if someone want's to see and search for specific model(or other stuff) he won't need to go trough a whole thread with like 20 pages to find what he needs. The same should be for the other dev subforums like Maps, Coding , Textures and etc.

I agree mostly. If you really want crits then definitely start a new topic.
I don't think it's necessary to start a topic for every model, maybe change this one into Lephenix's models. So he can post all his smaller models here. A topic for every small prop you create isn't necessary. On bigger things, like the medbay or one of my characters I think we can start a new topic. Then it doesn't get too cluttered.

I do think that we should make it a 'rule' to post wireframes and info like number of vertices, number of tris (and maybe texture size) for every model. So everyone can check each others models => everyone improves!

Green: bevel those edges. the shape will look smoother and the bake will be cleaner, too. Wink
Yellow: Maybe bevel those edges if the bake turns out bad in those places.
Red: Remove those edges. They will most likely only produce bad results in the bake and aren't really noticeable ingame.

Otherwise pretty cool model. Wink
Note that 90° angles don't bake very well though, you might have to tweak some of them later.

Looking forward to seeing the bake and textures.

Hidden for the bake since it would hide the light on the other leg, and the AO map would be black in that space and because i merged the 2 legs UVs so it is just one part of the UVs for the two legs

Just wondering, since a lot of my bakes don't turn out so well, how do you go about making a low poly from a high poly?

For cylinder type of models if there are too many edges you can select one edge for every 2 edges an loop it. Then select the vertexes used by these edges and first remove the edges and then delete the vertexes you have selected.

Similar is also deleting other details. You fist remove the edges you want( you don't just hit Delete but use from rollup bar Remove) and then you remove the vertexes used by these edges.

If you have a lot of details and you haven't saved the models in low poly before you started detailing it it will take some time.

My workflow is:

- Gather references
- Block Out
- High Poly
- Low Poly
- UVs
- Bakes
- Texture
- Render
