Well, damn.
The creator of the MayaCE3 plugin (seith) created some custom animations/skeletons for that game he was working on. You said you asked him once about something, maybe getting in contact again is worth a try?

Otherwise, forum post? Maybe on polycount in the CE3 subforum, too?

Can't help you in any other way as I have practically no clue about rigging, and only know Softimage well enough which is not officially supported.

Hi guys, I'm kinda busy theses last days but I'm gonna try to help this week or the next. I have much knowledge with 3DS than Maya in animation so I'll check with this plugin. I'll keep you informed.

My rig had 2 problems: Aim IK wasn't following my weapon bone and it was pointing in the wrong direction. To fix the first I had to zero out all my joint rotations. For the second, I had to go back in and realign the weapon bone so it points in the right direction. Because of the first fix, I was always missing the second one. Lucky that I was trying random things at this point.

So for now, I have to rebuild the rig for animation. Hopefully that will be the end of the rig problems.

I finished the rig and it seems to be working properly. Can you animate with Maya or just 3DS? I can give you the files to try exporting it to 3DS, but I haven't had much luck with that. You can also play around with it if you want to try Maya.

Just to let you know, I've uploaded the rebel pilot to the MegaCloud (you have access to that, right?). The model is mostly one mesh (and where it isn't the vertices should belong to the same bone) so maybe you'd like that more for animation testing because it doesn't have any gaps. Your call.

If it's finalized then I can do a more detailed skin of that and use that to animate. If you still need to make changes, then the trooper I'm using right now is fine. The gaps aren't too much of a problem for animating. It's a bit hard to skin but that part is done already.

Okay, I uploaded the rig to Megacloud. For now just play around with it and see if you can export a character and some animation into CryEngine.

For some guides on how to do that, there's the official documentation and SeithCG which also has a good cryengine tool for Maya.

Been busy the past few weeks so I haven't done much. The rig should be ready to go by this weekend. I'm also finally updating my build from 3.4.3 to 3.4.5 and trying to fix some bugs that came from that.

Also, I can make a 3ds Max rig so either package can produce character animations for Battlecry. Wink

New rig is done and tested in cryengine. Aim IK seems to be working along with the custom weapons.



I'll be busy for the next few weeks but I'll start working on redoing the placeholders again. As you can see, the old animations are messed up with this new rig. Wink

Don't know what happened to BWNoein.

@DT it's on megacloud since you seem to have access to it now.

Maybe you could split up animations between you and DT? Like, I dunno, you make the generic movement animations (walking/running/crouching) and DT starts on weapon animations (reload/aim poses etc) or something?

If you can't use the skeleton directly (I assume the actual rig won't transfer anyways?) I suppose you could rebuild it from geometry Terry could place at the joints and then exports? You could use those as snap guides and just rebuild the bone chains. As long as the bones have the same name it should work, right?

Needs to have same name and same axis. The same axis is why the sdk Maya skeleton doesn't work with the already made sdk animations.

My other test I was able to import the Maya skeleton just fine. I'll see if I can strap a Biped to it, rather than making all these individual controllers.

Yeah, maya flips the axis 180 degrees when exporting the character. I'm not sure if it's the same with 3ds. You'll have to do some tests to see if animation exported from 3ds can play on a character that was exported from maya.

I also forgot to attach the phys mesh to the rig so I'll do it tomorrow and reupload.
