Try and ignore the body suit for now, it's not really had any work done.

Looking pretty good, but some armor and helmet's proportions are off:

I may make a paintover when i have the time Wink.

Keep up the good work!

This is largely based off of TFU's stormie, due to lack of decent refs google has to offer lol. It's also the ROTJ version, which has slight changes over the ANH version. Wink

Update:

Also added some basic color:

Nice work, though he looks a bit slim to me. Maybe bulk him up a bit? These were the crack troops of the Empire after all. kind of today's marines.

The bodysuit does need to be 'filled out' a bit more for sure, but I think I have the overall size of the armor mostly right.

Btw there was nothing elite about the Stormtroopers, they were lousy shots compared to the clones. The training sucked and the pay was bad. lol.

Nice work sir. The breast plate looks a bit blobby in some places though. Maybe try and clean that up a bit.

Well, actually they were supposed to be anyways. Check it out on Wookiepedia. They sucked so much in the films cause they were the bad guys. They're much better in the books (and TFU as well), Remember Obi Wan saying in New Hope: "Only stormtroopers are so precise."

Yeah, I wasn't saying the armor shape is bad, it looks perfect IMO, just that they need to be less slim. Else is good stuff Smile

Thanks for the crits guys, I do need to go back over the model and fix things once everything is constructed.

Here's one of the major refs I'm using (plasmid's rip):

Some things I'm not worrying how it looks in that, ie the backplate box "O II"

I always LoL'd at Obi-wan's line in ANH after seeing the NT. Very Happy

Update:

- Added knee & shin armor
- Bulked up the body suit a bit to 'fill' the armor a bit better, but still keeping the proper shape

Still need to do these things before I get to work on a game mesh:

- Make boots
- Do topology cleanups
- Add finishing touches, ie bolts/screws
- Go over everything and make sure I haven't forgotten anything

Note:

Some details aren't present on the high poly model, ie a few things on the helmet. These will be made in photoshop with nDo2, and will appear on the game model.

Coming along nicely.

DT, once the trooper is nearer to completetion, I think you should focus on keeping the design of this model similar to Ande's character models as consistency is important.

While I certainly do agree with that, is there anything on my trooper that isn't consistent at the moment?

Btw Ande is the guy who is making the Scout yeah?

I think in the case of the Stormtrooper most of the consistency with my characters will lie in the textures. In terms of modelling I'm just following the refs I have.

Ah ok. So because the Stormtrooper is almost completely all armor (unlike the Scout), it would only need to match the Scouts level of 'wear and tear' (paint chips, scratches, dents) on the armor to be consistent and leave the body suit to the refs?

Yeah, just model it as close as possible to the refs (which usually include a lot of detail, so the level of detail should be ok) and then with the textures try to get a similar amount of dirt/wear etc going. We can talk on Skype about that when it's time though.

That'd be great, thanks. Wink

I do plan on making my gloves more detailed so they aren't just plain.

Yes. I can feel it.

The shoes deform weirdly at the ankle though.

Nice job, still not convinced about the helmet though:

Hmm yeah. I compared it to the trooper model ref you posted above and one of the original helmets (from http://starwarshelmets.com/).
The result:
Red: the pipe is differently angled than yours. Yours is basically straight until the larger bulge at the front, then it makes a really sharp angle. The original and the other model adaption are slightly angled right from the back.
Green: The connection between the pipe and the mouth piece is farther back. The opening of the pipe seems to be a straight vertical cut.
I think these two are the biggest problems, they give the helmet a weird shape which doesn't make it look at bad-ass as it could look.

Some nitpicks (I only noticed by closely comparing your helmet to others):
The 'pipe' doesn't seem to be completely round but a bit flattened, especially at the back (after the ear-thing).
Where the pipe meets the mouth-slit the indent is softer and more indented than in your case.
The 'goggles' are a bit more set back from the black thing above them.

Wink

Either all or nothing. Wink
And as long as it's in the modelling phase it doesn't make a lot of work. I always appreciated such crits, so I bet Jon does, too. Razz
